Billy saves the day for The Reds

Whether it was the copious amount of jelly tots, maniac blurring in the changing rooms or the hail storm before the match, the reds will never know…..but one thing is for sure something clicked in the first half of the match for Rostrevor to come out of the blocks like a jockey on a race course!

Kilcoo have produced two impressive scorelines from their previous matches and are a young fit team who are not to be approached lightly. The Reds knew the Magpies would come out guns blazing which meant the Super Reds had to be ready to fire back!

Young Sasha Boyle was the first to open up the Reds attack slotting home a clinker of a goal to give the girls a boost to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately the buzz quickly went after a nasty collision resulted in Cristin Brown being substituted.

However, the energetic Bridgdin Keenan came on to fire 2 goals past the keeper within a matter of minutes… on!! The Reds came out of the blocks the fastest and were going in at half time with a healthy lead of 3-5 to 7 points.

The second half was like a different match for The Reds….it was time for Kilcoo to switch it on and play…which they did! They managed to pull the game back to a draw as The Reds seemed to have lost their flow. This was when Brenda (Billy) Russell pulled off a save Johnny Parr would be proud of, and this seemed to give the girls the lift they needed to get back into the game.

Like most teams The Reds work off confidence and once this goal was saved Rostrevor drove up the field with Clara Mulvenna and Annamarie Magee cutting through the Kilcoo defensive like a hot knife through butter to score two unanswered goals winning the match 5-7 to 1-13.

Again the Super Reds demonstrated their never give up attitude and gave another great team performance of support play and determination!

Next up Saul on Saturday 7th May at home. #SuperReds.
