Rostrevor 5-12 Mayobridge 5-13
You would think in any match by scoring 5 goals, the win was a good one. This wasn’t the case on Tuesday night as The Reds took on their buddies, Mayobridge, with both teams hitting 5 a piece!!
Although a Rostrevor Man manages the Blues, The Reds wanted to win and to win badly to stop their dry spell; but unfortunately a last minute goal from the County Star Jordan Magee, killed all hope of that happening.
Rostrevor should have had the game well under way and cruising within the first ten minutes as they maintained all the possession, but kicked wide after wide……after wide, allowing The Bridge to convert every attack they made into a score, with Laura Mc Namee in fine form for The Blues. As if this wasn’t bad enough The Red’s suffered another blow towards the end of the first half when their brick wall defender aka Ginge Mc Conville, had to be taken off due to injury.
Quickly the Reds gathered themselves, with the aid of her replacement, Grainne Clarke, (who coincidentally also has ginger hair, sorry African Sunset, and resembles defensive work like Francie Bellew, could there be something there with hair colour perhaps hmmmmm) The Reds finally settled and got their shooting boots on and pulled it back to a draw at half time.
The second half was a matter of, anything you can score we can score too. As the ball was continuously played up and down the field like a ping pong game, with some fantastic engine work from Natasha Daryaie, Clara Mulvenna and Danielle Sherry who made every attempt to track back and support the defence.
With literally 3 mins to go the Reds had stolen it by 2 points with a finely taken goal from Brenda Billy Russell, for it only to be played up the field and slotted into the back of the net by the Bridge.
At least the sun was shinning and Louis’ Lens was there to get some class shots! (silver lining and all that!
Next up Downpatrick on Thursday 2nd June in Pettit Park @ 7pm
