St Bronagh’s GAC were saddened to learn of the death this morning of our double All Ireland winning full back Leo Murphy.
A stalwart of club and county for many years, Leo played for the Super Reds during the 60s and 70s in a decorated career, winning the All Ireland with Down in 1961 & 1962. A giant on the field and a gentleman off it, Leo also managed Rostrevor during the 80s. Headmaster of Killowen Primary School for many years, Leo brought gaelic games into the lives of many children who passed through the school. Leo and his family donated the ‘Donard Murphy Trophy’ to the club in memory of their late son, which is played for each summer by our U12 team and neighboring clubs.
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Sodilva and children Leon, Ciara and Tara, as well as remembering the late Donard at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Leo will be reposing at his family home where respects may be paid between 1pm and 10pm on Tuesday 21st February. His remains will leave from his home at 10.15am on Wednesday morning for 11am Requiem Mass.
Thanks to Louis for the lovely photo of Leo.May he Rest In Peace
