Over the next few weeks Down GAA will be holding a series of workshops aimed at upskilling club coaches in the core technical skills of Gaelic Football.
The “Performance Skills Coach” programme will be divided into 2 separate workshops and is aimed at up-skilling personnel from within the clubs, who can then pass this acquired knowledge on to their peers at club level.
Workshop 1: Tackling and Evasion – This is an interactive indoor workshop (Hall/Gym) where designated club coaches will be taken through the coaching points of various tackling/evasion skills. At the end of this session the coaches will know the coaching points of tackling and evasion and be able to coach these skills through various activities.
Workshop 2: Coaching the Coaches – This is an interactive indoor workshop(Hall/Gym) where designated coaches will be taken through tutoring skills(theory) and get the opportunity to practise these skills with the rest of the group
The workshops will all be held indoors at St. Malachy’s HS Castlewellan and will commence at 7.30pm each evening. They will consist of a mixture of both theory and practical elements.
The workshops will be held on the following dates:
Workshop 1- Tuesday 30th January 2018
Workshop 2 – Tuesday 6th February 2018
I would ask that all coaches give consideration to sending a suitable person / people who will be actively involved in the selection and up-skilling of coaches within your club.
This is a fantastic learning opportunity for coaches who work with young players to be educated in how to break down and rebuild the core skills of Gaelic Football for maximum benefit to their players.
